The Most in Demand Skills for Data Scientists
Data scientists are expected to know a lot — machine learning, computer science, statistics,
mathematics, data visualization, communication, and deep learning. How should
data scientists who want to be in demand by employers spend their learning
budget?
Global
Consumer Insights Survey: PwC
PwC’s
10th annual Global Consumer Insights Survey (GCIS) — which gathers the
sentiments of more than 21,000 online consumers in 27 territories — shows that
in addition to the traditional return on investment (ROI) metrics used to
determine a company’s success, we need to introduce another metric, one with a
laser focus on customer experience: return on experience. Whether your
organisation is in the business of household goods, health services, selling
cars or financial services, delivering a superior experience will be what makes
you a winner.
2019 CrowdStrike
Global Threat Report
The 2019 CrowdStrike Global Threat
Report offers one of the industry's most comprehensive reports on today's top
cyberthreats. It combines analysis from CrowdStrike Intelligence, Falcon
OverWatch managed hunting and the CrowdStrike Services incident response teams
highlighting the most significant events and trends in the past year.
It combines CrowdStrike's comprehensive
global observations with real-world case studies to deliver deep insights on
modern adversaries and their tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs). Global
trends and observations are paired with actionable recommendations, ensuring
your organization is ready to anticipate and defend against the most dangerous
threats of tomorrow.

What
programming language should you learn first?
Most
people’s journey toward learning to program starts with a single late-night
Google search.
Usually
it’s something like “Learn ______”
Deciding
on your first programming language can be a fun process. One should consider
the following factors:
- The job market for the language
- The long term prospects for the language
- How easy the language is to learn
- What projects you can build while you’re learning (and share with friends so you can stay motivated)
Death
by a Thousand Clicks: Where Electronic Health Records Went Wrong
The
U.S. government claimed that turning American medical charts into electronic
records would make health care better, safer, and cheaper. Ten years and $36
billion later, the system is an unholy mess: Inside a digital revolution gone
wrong. A joint investigation by Fortune and Kaiser Health News.
Don’t
fall for it: a parent’s guide to protecting your kids from online hoaxes
It’s
a parent’s responsibility to protect their children from harm, no matter where
that threat of harm comes from. But what if the threat is a hoax?

Untold
History of AI: Charles Babbage and the Turk
The
history of AI is often told as the story of machines getting smarter over time.
What’s lost is the human element in the narrative, how intelligent machines are
designed, trained, and powered by human minds and bodies.
In
this six-part series, we explore that human history of AI—how innovators,
thinkers, workers, and sometimes hucksters have created algorithms that can
replicate human thought and behavior (or at least appear to). While it can be
exciting to be swept up by the idea of super-intelligent computers that have no
need for human input, the true history of smart machines shows that our AI is
only as good as we are.
The Best Private Search Engines — Alternatives
to Google
Private search engines have seen huge growth over
the past few years. Until recently, it was unthinkable that anyone could
compete with Google in the search realm. However, there are now many smaller
players in the search game that are growing rapidly. Google’s market share has
declined from 78.7 percent in February 2017 to slightly below 70 percent in
February 2018.
A few of these search engines, including DuckDuckGo
and StartPage began as normal search engines with no privacy enhancements.
However, after they realized the massive risk associated with storing so much
data, they decided to take a different approach.
Your privacy really matters, and these search
engines can help you stay private online:
