8 Behaviors That Separate Ultra-Successful People From Everybody Else

Ultra-successful individuals demonstrate some similar traits that set them apart from the ordinary.

Success has nothing to do with timing, luck or inborn talent, but rather a way of thinking and doing things to create a lifestyle of positivity and prosperity.

So why just sit back and admire ultra successful people when you could become one yourself?

There’s no microwave-ready recipe for success, so these aren’t five-minute fixes. But if you take this advice, you’ll be following in the footsteps of the entrepreneurial greats.

Embrace these eight behaviors to put yourself on a winning path:

10 Uncomfortable Things That Will Make You Happy and Successful

10 Uncomfortable Things That Will Make You Happy and Successful

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if the road to success and happiness were an easy one? Unfortunately, as we all know, this isn’t the case. The reality is, you’ll only succeed once you force yourself to do things that you don’t necessarily want to. It’s true. You see, our brains are wired in such a way that we often don’t take action until we feel some sort of uneasiness or uncertainty.

Multiple studies have backed this claim up, showing that performance spikes when we’re doing something out of our norm. The act of stepping outside our comfort zone is not only vital to our success, but also our well being and ability to grow as individuals too.

With a little understanding and a few minor adjustments, you can break free and achieve more than you ever dreamt possible. So step out of your bubble and embrace the following ten challenges:

  1. Ask for what you want.
  2. Get up early.
  3. Say NO.
  4. Take Compliments.
  5. Give and take critical feedback.
  6. Admit mistakes.
  7. Network and make small talk.
  8. Start practicing public speaking.
  9. Overcome procrastination.
  10. Let go.

9 Things Every Person Should Do After 9 P.M.

9 Things Every Person Should Do After 9 P.M.

Recently an enormous amount of attention has been paid to establishing morning routines that set people up for success. Still, your nighttime routine is just as important, if not more important, than your morning routine.

As the popular saying goes, “It’s not how you start. It’s how you finish.” I would say it’s both. A great morning routine is like a great starting pitcher in baseball. He gets you off to a strong start, that sets you up to win. Just as important is that great nighttime routine, which is like a closing pitcher. Rather than have things fall apart, the closer comes in and pulls everything together, making sure you end your day successfully.

These 9 tips are thoroughly researched and drawn both from science, and the habits of the most successful people in the world. I’m writing this article as a process of improvement for myself. I personally have been spending a lot of time late at night on Instagram and in front of my computer. I’ve been waking up groggy because of a lack of slack. Whenever I implement the following behaviors I feel significantly better both that night, and the next day.

1. Turn Off Technology
2. Read a “Real” Book
3. Journal
4. Plan for the Next Day
5. Cool Down
6. Do Spiritual Practice(s): Meditate, Light Exercise, Pray
7. Spend Quality Time with Family and/or Friends
8. Clean
9. Sleep

A great nighttime routine is the perfect way to end a day. It leaves us feeling rested, rejuvenated and reflective. It sets us up for a great day tomorrow, and encourages us to develop outstanding habits.

8 Mental Habits the Most Successful People Learn to Break

It's not what you learn, but what you unlearn that matters.

Sometimes, success comes not from what you learn to do but what you learn to stop doing.

That bit of wisdom comes from Sandja Brügmann, serial entrepreneur and founder of the Passion Institute, a recently launched online educational program and consultancy for executives and entrepreneurs. "Once we have developed understanding of how we interfere with our visions and goals, then comes the challenging process of unlearning and changing specific behaviors," she explains.

Unlearning is hard work. "It requires one to move out of automatic behaviors and into conscious understanding, where we take control of our own actions and lives," Brügmann says. "It requires confronting uncomfortable feelings and an attentive vision for a different business life." In fact, she says, it takes many of the same skills that entrepreneurs need to succeed in their businesses. "It's a real act of self-love at a deep level," she says. It's also what you need to do to become a transformational leader.

What are some of the behaviors we all need to unlearn to become effective leaders? Here are the ones Brügmann says she encounters most often.

1. Pleasing
2. Being fuzzy about boundaries
3. Not speaking your mind
4. Avoiding failure
5. Letting fear hold you back
6. Negative thinking
7. Getting really, really busy
8. Looking for your power outside yourself

10 Ways Successful People Spend Their Time After Work

When Neil Patrick Harris was in his late teens and early 20s, he rocketed into fame starring on the hit TV show, Doogie Howser, M.D. Precocious and prodigiously talented, he quickly became one of the most sought-after young actors of his generation.

Many of Neil’s young Hollywood friends liked to drink, do drugs, and party. Neil quickly realized that the “club scene” wasn’t for him, so he started spending his free time in a different way.

As Neil recounts in his autobiography, whenever he had a couple weeks of vacation time, he would fly to NYC to see as many Broadway shows as he possibly could. Sometimes, two shows a day.

Why? He wanted to spend his free time watching masterful actors at the top of their game. Neil knew that he would absorb priceless lessons at every performance—and he did. He’s gone on to build a long, celebrated career as an award-winning actor, writer, director, presenter, and host.

The way you spend your time outside of work—what you do on your evenings, weekends, and vacations -- can have a big impact on the trajectory of your career. If you want to be highly successful at work, you have to be thoughtful and intentional with the way you spend your time outside of work, too.

Think back to your last few evenings, weekends, or holidays. How did you spend your time? Are your after-hours activities helping you to build the career that you want—or holding you back?

If it’s time for a new post-work ritual, here’s a list to inspire you—10 ways successful people spend their time after work.

1. They Work Out
2. They Seek Inspiration and Fresh Experiences
3. They Build Authentic Relationships
4. They Say “No” (a Lot)
5. They Spend Time in Nature
6. They Unplug
7. They Get the Most Out of Their Evening Routines
8. They Take Real Vacations
9. They Take Classes and Invest in Themselves
10. They De-stress and Take Care of Themselves
