5
Types of Ecommerce Business Models That Work Right Now
Ecommerce
business models of all types are thriving. Sales from online stores are
expected to increase 78% by 2020. It’s easy to get caught up and excited in the
latest ecommerce trends, but unless you know the fundamentals, you’ll hit a
profitability wall without knowing it.
A
booming ecommerce business takes intuition, knowledge of your market, a solid
business plan, and careful research into products and ecommerce business
models. But one of the biggest hurdles most newcomers to the space face is easy
to solve. Many would-be ecommerce business owners just don’t know how ecommerce
businesses are set up and what business and product model options are available
to them.
What is soft skills?
A soft skill is a personal attribute that supports
situational awareness and enhances an individual's ability to get a job done.
The term soft skills is often used as a synonym for people skills or emotional
intelligence. Unlike hard skills, which describe a person's technical ability
to perform a specifically-defined task, soft skills are broadly applicable
across job titles and industries. It's often said that while hard skills might
get someone an interview, soft skills will help that person get (and keep) the
job.
Inside
GCHQ: The Art of Spying in the Digital Age
Britain’s
biggest intelligence service is rethinking its mission — and recruitment
strategy. As the centenary of its creation approaches, the UK’s largest
intelligence service is having to rethink the way it recruits the spies of
tomorrow. Faced with sweeping technological change and a rapidly evolving
security threat, GCHQ now plays a far more wide-ranging role in the everyday safety
of British citizens than was probably ever imagined when it was founded in 1919
as the Government Code and Cypher School.
Some

The
book “Vedic Management” authored by Dr .

has a special appeal to all management students, professors and practitioners
across the globe through its holistic approach to managerial excellence. The
author has delivered presentations on the subject at different institutions. The
following two such presentation are quite popular

How
IoT Became IoUT (Internet of Unexpected Things)
It
is an exciting time in the IoT space. And if we’ve learned one thing, it’s that
our only barrier to innovation is our own imagination. In 2018, IoT connected
the unexpected – like prosthetic limbs and tectonic plates – to improve daily
life with smart solutions. Looking ahead, I believe we’ll see 2019 continue
leading and delivering IoT’s potential. But, here’s a look back at a few
unexpected things IoT made a bit “smarter”:
Job
hunting in the digital age: Your next interview could be with a robot that will
identify your personality, from agreeable to neurotic. Feeling jittery? Here's
how it works.
Current
hiring trends indicate that your next job interview could very well be with a
robot. While employers may like the automation, job hunters’ reactions may
depend on whether or not they get the job—and the salary they deserve. In
addition to rifling through resumes, AI bots are now doing the interviewing
too. Their surprising success has researchers racing to build the best robot
possible—even cobbling together a model from several other artificial
intelligence systems.
Engineers
from Estonia and Spain studied the AI models of several other research
groups—all of whom participated in the 2017 ChaLearn Looking at People (LAP)
CVPR/IJCNN Competition—and extracted their best features to create a new AI
interviewer with almost 90 percent accuracy in determining a job applicant’s
personality traits.
Not
Your Usual Top 10 List: Google Team Asks Experts for Online Security Advice for
Everyday Users. It Comes Up with 152 Things to Know.
Worried
about your online security? A Google team asked experts on its Google Online
Security Blog for their top three pieces of advice for non-tech-savvy users. After
231 security experts responded, the Google team concluded what many average
users have long known: Our digital world is downright confusing at times. To
come up with a fast checklist for online safety is “no small task,” the Google
researchers concluded. So, in an effort to make the world a digitally safer
place, the Google authors developed for the IEEE Computer Society, the world’s
premier association of computing professionals, a list of “152 Simple Steps to
Stay Safe Online.”
50
years of Software: How It Began, Where It's Going
Just
50 years ago, “software engineering” emerged as a field unto itself,
legitimized as a branch of science and technology, joining the pantheon of
professions devoted to engineering.
Today,
software eats our world.
Our
daily lives seem built on the languages of programmers. We furnish, clothe, and
feed ourselves by going online (often with help from recommendation
algorithms). Our cars run on code as much as fuel.
And
chances are, you are reading this on a device whose lifeblood is software.
Now
the finest minds in software — including the pioneer who invented “software
engineering” — gather at this half-century milestone and look into the past and
future of the revolutionary instructions that are software.
In
a special presentation of their analyses and commentary, the Computer Society’s
award-winning IEEE Software magazine recently chronicled the speed of
software’s journey and describes the daunting frontiers ahead for software
developers. Here’s a summary of their peer-reviewed research, placed in front
of the paywall for a limited time (a login may be required after the open
period).
Industrial Technology Research Institute Lists Top 10 Tech Trends
for Asia by 2030
A new report from the IEK Consulting of Industrial
Technology Research Institute assesses the 2030 market perspectives and policy
plans of major Asian countries and lists the 10 most crucial advanced
technologies that will affect the Asian region by 2030.
Big Pharma emits more greenhouse gases than the automotive industry
Rarely does mention of the pharmaceutical industry
conjure up images of smoke stacks, pollution and environmental damage.
Yet our recent study found the global pharmaceutical
industry is not only a s
ignificant contributor to global warming, but it is
also dirtier than the global automotive production sector.
It was a surprise to find how little attention
researchers have paid to the industry’s greenhouse gas emissions. Only two
other studies had some relevance: one looked at the environmental impact of the
U.S. health-care system and the other at the pollution (mostly water)
discharged by drug manufacturers..

The library – humanist ideal, social glue and now, tourism hotspot
Last year two Danish librarians – Christian Lauersen
and Marie Eiriksson – founded Library Planet: a worldwide, crowdsourced, online
library travel guide. According to them, Library Planet is meant to inspire
travellers “to open the awesome book that is our world of libraries, cities and
countries”.
The name of the online project is a deliberate nod
to the Australian-made Lonely Planet. The concept is simple and powerful.
Library lovers contribute library profiles and images from their travels; the
founders then curate and publish the posts, with the ambition of capturing
library experiences and library attractions from around the world.
Visualizing the AI Revolution in One Infographic
Science fiction didn’t do a great job in preparing
us for our first real encounters with AI. Most people probably still envision
AI in the form of a sentient robot that can talk, move around, and experience
feelings – something like WALL-E or C-3PO from the movies. Although that still
may be the dream, it turns out that the current iteration of AI is actually
quite different. With modern AI, all the “thinking” gets done in the cloud, and
the algorithms aren’t tied to the identity of a physical machine like we would
have expected from the big screen. The modern iteration of AI works silently in
the background without a face, and it’s starting to impact everything it
touches. It’s also set to transform our economy at warp speed.
This infographic helps you understand the context
around this emerging force. Entitled “The AI Revolution”, it covers the brief
history of AI, the industries that will be affected, as well as some key AI
statistics that are likely to catch your eye.
Floating cities are getting far closer to reality than ever before -
but they won't be the libertarian utopias billionaires have proposed
It's been about 13 centuries since Homer envisioned
a mythical floating city surrounding by "unbreakable bronze." The
idea has generally remained the province of myth since then - until last month.
In April, the United Nations hosted a roundtable to
discuss a proposal for a floating community called Oceanix City that could
withstand floods, tsunamis, and Category 5 hurricanes. The project, which hails
from architect Bjarke Ingels and the design firm Oceanix, consists of a
collection of hexagonal platforms that combine to form six villages, each with
around 1,800 residents.
The concept arose from a desire to address rising
sea levels and land constraints in major cities. In a statement at the
roundtable, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed called the floating city
"part of our new arsenal of tools" to address issues like poverty,
climate change, disease outbreaks, and the mass movements of migrants and
refugees.
Bonus: Sustainability by
design (12 talks)
Humans are builders and creators—but how can we
build thoughtfully, without waste? These talks explore sustainable design—both
past and present—and its beautiful, inspiring results.
